Step-by-Step Instructions

Open Chart of Accounts

Go to Accounting & Finance > Chart of Accounts or Funds.

Create Account Record

Click 'Add Account', input Account Code (e.g. 1010-Cash, 4010-Tuition Income), Account Title, Classification (Asset/Liability/Equity/Revenue/Expense), and Normal Balance (Debit/Credit).

Save & Organize Hierarchy

Nest sub-accounts under parent control accounts.

Important Business Rules & Invariants

Active Account Protection: GL accounts with posted journal transactions cannot be deleted; they can only be marked as Inactive.

Funds categorize cash and revenue streams into restricted and unrestricted pots across multiple general ledger accounts.
